Volunteers are used for all administrative and labor tasks needed for the efficient operation of our food pantry. Our administrative volunteers determine household eligibility by obtaining personal identity and financial information from the citizens we serve, applying income standards set by the State. Our labor volunteers help unload food delivery truck shipments, stock shelves, prepare food boxes, and deliver them to our members' vehicles during our hours of operations. With the weekend backpack program, food and informational flyers are packed by volunteers, and stored in a secure area until distribution. Our food pantry will deliver the bags to Okolona Elementary School weekly when school is in session. Meals are packed for children in plastic bags. School officials will discreetly insert the bags into children’s backpacks before the weekend or holiday break. Dependent upon availability, pencils, school supplies and small toys will be also distributed in the take-home bags.
We collaborate and receive support from the United Way of Northeast Mississippi, CREATE Foundation, MS Food Network, Excel Commons, Eastern Star Missionary Baptist Church, First Baptist Church of Okolona, Faith Outreach Ministries of Okolona, First Presbyterian Church of Okolona, Mt. Pisgah United Methodist Church, Snow Town United Methodist Chruch, Chickasaw Board of Supervisors, Cold Mix, Inc., and various individuals who help make what we do possible.
Within our organization, no person is excluded from service because of race, religion, sex, national origin, age, or handicap. There is no segregation of persons based on race, religion, sex, national origin, age, or handicap with regard to services provided, hiring, promotion, staff employment, or election to or service on the agency's board of directors.
